31 January – 2 February 2025

Van Etten, Oslo, Norway

We continue the celebration of Tegneklubben's 20th anniversary and the launch of two new books. One presents a rich selection of around 500 drawings from the club's extensive archive. The other contains texts from 25 contributors about Tegneklubben, art, and life in general.

The exhibition will consist of old and new drawings. Artist talk with Geir Tore Holm on Saturday, 1 February at 14:00.

"Oh, Tegneklubben! When did one first hear about this alluring concept, where was one in life when realizing that there was something called Tegneklubben, a club for drawing, when one asked oneself: where does one line up to become a member?"
Maria Horvei

"A drawing is a language without grammar. There are no rules for how to read lines, other than as traces of free thoughts."
Sebastian Makonnen Kjølaas

"Has a tree really existed before it has turned into cellulose, drawn by Tegneklubben? Is it a contradiction that a club that draws must define itself with a word? Can Tegneklubben become a new primary school? Further education for life-weary bureaucrats? Can Tegneklubben be used as a model for building an entire society?"
Bård Torgersen

"The goal of the club is to fight against the power of art bureaucracy, they say. How can a group of like-minded, beer-drinking, middle-aged men undertake such a task? Fight against power? Aren't they the very power? Or are they the powerless?"
Gauk Verper Bergkanten

"In the attempt to find out what 'penis' means, linguistically, visually, and symbolically in Tegneklubben's oeuvre, I have to give up. It means so much. Life. Lust. Zeitgeist. Shame. Sadness. Joy. Music?"
Beathe C. Rønning

"Occasionally, one would wish for something absolutely solid, generous, unpretentious, non-commercial, playful, daring, and moving from people of their own time, their own reality. Someone who can knock me off my chair in laughter without having to read a convoluted French philosophy word beforehand. Some kind of group. A club, perhaps? A drawing group? Tegneklubben! Of course! Tegneklubben!"
Vegard Urne

"... From Tegneklubben's side, questions are posed that we never get answers to other than a shared understanding that the emptiness smolders in us all..."
Cathrine Evelid

"... the more I write about Tegneklubben, the more I find myself wanting to be inside. Let me in. I can grow a mustache. The more I think about it, the more envious I become. It sneaks in and hooks onto me while I write. I want to be a man and for them to have room for a sixth person..."
Hanne Ramsdal

"Tegneklubben expresses it so precisely. They mature us with plumbing humor, and when we are matured, they hit us with scathing criticism of institutions and individuals who deserve it and can take it, thereby creating new connections between high and low."
Hanne Ramsdal

"Lines on a sheet are not necessarily a drawing."
Åsmund Thorkildsen
